As a child Dave Hamilton, President and Founder of Delivery Express would always tell the district manager for the newspaper that he wanted a delivery route as soon as he turned 12. The morning of his birthday he awoke a working man.
At 13, Dave started helping the local Smith Brothers milkman make deliveries. Dave would hang on the side of the truck, run the milk up to the neighborhood porches and dash back to the truck. He made a few bucks a day, got a free lunch and all the chocolate milk he could drink. Dave had found his calling!
At 18 he got his first courier job for a real estate title company. A couple years later, while in college, he met an overloaded independent contractor who had his own delivery business. Dave told him if he needed help he was ready to go. Once again Dave got the job.
In 1996 the government deregulated the trucking industry, opening the door to a whole new world for the courier industry. Now that Dave had free reign to compete on an equal basis Delivery Express was born.
The company has grown steadily and impressively from the small one room office and three drivers it had in the beginning to the 19 employee, 100 independent contractors and more than 600 clients it services today from its office in Tukwila.
There are a few deliveries that Dave has made personally that touched his heart. Delivery Express is a philanthropic company that believes strongly in giving back to the community. While serving on the board of directors for the Starlight Foundation Dave was asked if Delivery Express would deliver the toys that had been donated for sick children and their families at Christmas. He and several drivers did not hesitate to volunteer their time. For Dave these deliveries were a family affair. He recruited his five children to be the elves. The emotional outpouring from these nights was life changing for his children.
Dave knows how important it is to come through for a charity, or for a customer. He has hired employees who support the Delivery Express rallying cry: “We can do this!” Dave strongly believes that “you need to be able to say ‘yes’ to customers every time they call.”
Mike puts his heart and soul into his work as our Chief Information Officer just like he did with the Peace Corps before he came to Delivery Express. After spending 6 months of doing important volunteer work in Moldova, an Eastern European country tucked in between Romania and Ukraine, he decided it was time to begin a career back home.
He’s our technology, software and data expert who gathers and studies all the important information and then breaks it down for the rest of us so we can best serve our customers. He’s most satisfied when he leaves work knowing the data he crunched and distributed helped make our customers and his coworkers happy with another day filled with successful on time deliveries.
When he’s done creating analytics dashboards at work he’s a down to earth guy who enjoys exploring new neighborhoods in the Seattle area with his wife Kara and dog Roxie. In our wonderfully different parts of town Mike and Kara like to try new restaurants and Roxie seems to love the new smells.
Mike has been working his magic at Delivery Express for over a dozen years now. Every day he brings his passion to work to make sure we always do the best job we can.
When Ken thinks about his priorities in his life he thinks about his family, job and community. Nothing is more important to Ken than his wife Sasha and son Eli. They enjoy traveling together, locally and internationally. Truth is, they simply enjoy being together.
Ken says one of the things he appreciates most about Delivery Express is it treats its employees like family. He says that attitude has helped the company put together a great team that has a shared and consistent goal of providing a great service to its customers.
From handling money matters for the short and long term to managing employee benefits, as CFO of Delivery Express, Ken has a lot on his plate but he makes sure he also has time to be involved in his community. Over the years he has contributed in many ways to several local charities.
Ken loves sports, especially football. He feels lucky to be a season ticket holder to University of Washington football games. The UW football team has put together a winning program in recent years and that’s something Ken equates to the strong team at Delivery Express. He says he knows he’s had a good day when he leaves work knowing he achieved a common goal with his co-workers and had positive interactions with members of his team. It’s that kind of camaraderie that leads to top quality service for customers, which Ken says is the ultimate goal at Deliver Express every single day.
“The detailed coordination of a complex operation involving many people, facilities and supplies.” – That’s the definition of logistics.
This is Nabil’s area of expertise. He’s spent his career, more than 20 years, pinning it all down from the U.S. Army to Staples and Office Depot to Boeing. Nabil knows logistics.
There are many working parts at Delivery Express from inside the office and warehouse to the streets of the Pacific Northwest. Some deliveries can be routine and many present unique challenges. Nabil’s number one priority, our company’s number one priority, is being on-time with all deliveries along with total customer satisfaction. It can be complex so Nabil puts in a full day, every day.
When he finally leaves the office and heads home for quality time with his wife and two teenaged children Nabil is most content when our delivery goals were met, customers are all happy and his fellow workers are proud of their contributions to make it all happen.
Whatever your delivery needs we’d love to have you put Nabil and Delivery Express to the test
Dedication is a word we think helps describe Kristian.
First, her dedication to family: her husband, teenaged son and 5 stepchildren. Kristian’s parents and two brothers live in the area and she loves to plan events to get everyone together.
Kristian is dedicated to her job and as Marketing Director of Delivery Express she says it sure helps to promote a company she so strongly believes in. She says this is one of the best companies in the entire transportation business.
Kristian and Delivery Express are also dedicated to many causes, including the Bleeding Disorder Foundation of Washington (BDFW) where she was Executive Director before joining Delivery Express. Her son Cole has severe hemophilia so Kristian spends endless hours helping raise money and awareness to improve the lives of children and adults with this chronic illness.
On the job Kristian says putting the customer first is of utmost importance. That’s why she and her coworkers, whom she describes as the most talented people she’s ever worked with, are always analyzing how to make Delivery Express even better. That dedication to improving, and to the customer, explains why email from satisfied clients makes the Delivery Express staff almost giddy with delight.
Away from work and charitable causes Kristian loves to cook. She says she reads cookbooks for pleasure and makes a new meal almost every night. She likes to take that same approach when running the company’s social media accounts and website by having a good time and trying new things. One thing you can count on for sure with Kristian; having a lot of fun.
Don is a valuable employee who constantly contributes to the success of Delivery Express. Don’s life and purpose is defined by the phrase “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart…” It is this phrase that he says is the driving force in his life.
Knowing that Don approaches every day with this belief at the top of his mind helps explain the dedication he has to his job. He says the most important thing at work is taking care of the customer. He subscribes to our company’s philosophy that it’s important to find a way to always tell our customers “yes.” Don says, “That simple three letter word provides opportunities that are limitless.” He doesn’t waste words to explain how he tries to always have a satisfied customer. He just says, “Listen and follow through.”
We like the way Don thinks. We like the way he delivers.
Ask Sherri about her work philosophy and she’ll tell you right away it’s important to never forget that we’re here for our customers. Bottom line: they are number one! With that in mind she always strives to provide friendly, fast and consistent service at a fair price. Sherri enjoys getting to know our customers. That way, she says, it’s easier to find solutions that work within their budget. Sherri is most satisfied when our customers are happy and she knows that she was able to contribute to that and make a difference.
Away from work Sherri is all about making time for family and friends. Time is something she wishes she had more of with her daughter, who lives out of state. But when she does come back to visit you’ll see a great big smile on Sherri’s face. Otherwise she might be reading, playing board games, shopping or satisfying her admitted television “addiction” to cooking and home improvement shows.
Making connections are all important to Richard. The most important connections are with his family. His life changed and his priorities became very clear when he had children. Connecting with his kids, caring for them and making sure they’re headed in the right direction are paramount. Family comes first.
Making connections are at the top of his work list too. He’s an all important link with our carriers, answering their questions, helping resolve issues and assisting them to make more on-time deliveries. He also makes crucial equipment connections, things like locating a certain type of vehicle and getting it to the right place to satisfy a customer’s need. He’s a key part of making sure things are running smoothly at Delivery Express.
It doesn’t surprise us then that Richard spends much of his spare time making sure things run better at home, from doing maintenance work on the family vehicles to tuning his motorcycle or tackling another home improvement job. None of that gets done though until he gets the kids to karate classes and soccer games.
Richard says his work day is made when customers are happy, carriers are happy and the Delivery Express team goes home exhausted, but satisfied, by a job well done.
Bam! Pow! Zap!
Holy Delivery Express Batman that’s another “on-time” delivery!!!
Rye likes to think that she and her coworkers are all wearing invisible capes, ready to jump into action whenever and wherever they’re needed to get the job done. Superheroes? Maybe not, but Rye believes having a little bit of that attitude is a good thing. She focuses on solving problems and making sure things run smoothly. It’s a challenge she enjoys taking on in the fast paced environment at Delivery Express.
Rye tackles her job every day with the goal of making our customers happy. She says it’s most important to be polite, professional, honest and, of course, on-time. She wants to make sure all our clients have a good experience.
Holy reconsideration Batman. Maybe she is a superhero!
